A Morning Walkabout
I made this image of the western elevation of the Fairmont Hotel Coal Harbour early one morning with fellow photographer Nick Doolan. it was about 2 degrees outside and the sun was just starting to rise with light barely poking through the street corridor and landing on the facade. Below left is the edge of the new Vancouver Convention Centre with it’s “green roof” in view. My hands were swollen with the cold (I had just lost my gloves on a photo shoot the day before!) but I endured as I just had to capture the light on the building.
Morning walkabouts I find are very good for pushing my creativity and honing compositions as they force a “harder seeing”, and make me really work for images that I might not see in the first place. This image turned out very well with a great vantage point and the light hitting at just the right angle and at just the right time.
